How to apply for a Provisional Driving licence

All Hawkwell driving school weekly lessons and intensive driving courses will be taught by Alan your professional DSA approved driving instructor.

Weekly lessons:
This is the way most people will learn to drive, by doing a driving lesson each week. Over the many years Alan has been teaching he has found that single hour lessons provide far too little time in the car for most people, and by the time you have settled in the lesson will be all over. Because of this we recommend a minimum of one-and-a-half-hour, and preferably two-hour lessons. This will maximise your learning and reduce the overall number of hours driving you will need to pass your driving test.

We recommend that you try to take two-hour driving lessons whenever possible, because these improve your ability to concentrate over longer periods, and give you time to practice many more things each time you drive. You will have time to recap on the previous week's lesson, settle back into driving again, experience new routes, and practice your manoeuvres. In the later stages of your learning you will be able to drive into a driving test area and experience the type of roads that you will drive on on your driving test. Two-hour lessons are essential leading up to your test so that you are able to spend sufficient time getting used to driving on test routes, and doing mock tests.

Intensive Courses:
An intensive driving course can be arranged for you if you need to pass your driving test in a short time, perhaps for work reasons or because your theory test 2 year period is running out.

As driving test waiting list times are about 6 - 8 weeks your intensive driving course would normaly be conducted over that period. The amount of driving lessons you would need to pass your driving test would be discussed with you on your initial trial driving lesson, and your driving lesson schedule agreed with you.

You may find that this may be two two-hour driving lessons a week, or maybe more or less depending on your ability. As your driving course progresses the intensity of your driving lessons can be adjusted to suit your needs. This flexibility gives you the best possible opportunity to pass your driving test at the end of the course, and is why Alan has such an excellent driving test first time pass rate.

Pass Plus:
This is a six hour course that covers motorway, dual-carriageway, rural, urban, night, and
all-weather driving. The motorway training is normally conducted on the M25 and M11, and is a superb confidence booster.
